IMG_4053ONE // Pretty flowers. At Heather’s shower last weekend, the party favor was a small bouquet of flowers. Emily put them together and they were all so pretty! Mine are still very alive and fresh. This would be a great color pallet for the masterbedroom. Heavy on the greys and white, with accents of yellows and green.: TWO // Paint ideas. We’ve been talking about how we want to paint our new apartment. We want to keep it pretty basic, and I can’t wait to move and decorate the new space!

IMG_4081THREE// Fresh food and new recipes. We had pizza one night this week, and the day after I felt like we needed to compensate with something healthy.  So I made this delicious freshness! Inspired by this friend’s post.

IMG_4091FOUR // Hopper. This is a great flight-finder app that “analyzes billions of flights to help you find the best deals and the best times to fly and buy.” Essentially, you put in the dates you want to fly, and it notifies you when flights to your destination are the cheapest.

IMG_4087FIVE // Carpooling to work with my favorite. Doesn’t happen too often, but when it does, it’s a good day.

Have a good weekend! We’ve got several birthdays to celebrate.

Surprise Dates & Showers

I love summer so much. This weekend was made up of so many more reasons why!

Friday {date night} on my way home from work, I called Loren and told him to be ready to go out when I got home, but didn’t tell him why. I had planned a little Chipotle picnic at a nearby park (one we hadn’t been to yet) and wanted to surprise him. I just told him where to drive as he kept asking a million questions about what we were doing. Even though he wasn’t super surprised and guessed what was up, it was still fun. 🙂 If you follow me on Snapchat, you got to see how it all went down (username: sisterfour).

Saturday we slept in a little, made pancakes, then I got some food ready for Sunday’s bridal shower. My SIL Heather is getting married in September, and we bridesmaids were throwing her a shower on Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati, so that afternoon we loaded up the car and headed over for the rest of the weekend. After helping Carrie set up a little, we headed to Loren’s parent’s house for a cookout with some of the siblings. It was a fun summer evening catching up on each other’s lives.

Sunday we all went to the early service at church so we would have plenty of time to set up for the early afternoon shower. Since Heather has traveled to so many places, Carrie had the brilliant idea of making the shower travel themed. All the food was from the different countries Heather had visited, and Carrie made a couple cute banners that also went along with the theme. Since I was in charge of the menu (but we all helped make it), naturally I took lots of pictures of the food. 😉 We played a few games, ate lots of food and Heather shared the sweet story of her and Marcus’ relationship before opening gifts. It was such a sweet time and we were so happy to be able to spoil Heather a little bit!

And here is what the guys were up to during the shower: visiting Grandma J and teaching the nephew putt-putt and juggling cornhole bean bags.

I’m so glad we got to see family this weekend!

Five on Friday // 7-22-16

Another summer week that has been rainy and sunny and gone by surprisingly fast.

IMG_4010

ONE // Chicken and waffles. Someone at work was talking about breakfast foods the other day, so by the time I got home that was all I wanted for dinner. I’ve never made these two together, but it was so good! TWO // This amazing garlic chili fused olive oil. Our friends introduced us to these flavor infused oils that are sold in a little town close to us (Nashville, IN). We were recently down there and bought a bottle that I now use for several things. There’s no going back now!

THREE // This dress. I finally bought my bridesmaids dress for my SIL’s wedding in September. It’s simple, but I love it and can’t wait to wear it!

IMG_4001FOUR // The artwork of older brothers. This is my nephew after his older brothers (almost 3 and 1) decided he needed a little makeup (this is just mud, no worries). Maybe next time make sure it’s the right shade, guys! 😉

FIVE // Running/walking with Loren. Last week I decided to switch up my workout routine and add walking/running with Loren a couple days a week. While running is not my favorite, it always feels good after the fact. On that note, I need new running shoes. Any tips on which ones to get?

Have a fabulous weekend!

Frozen Watermelon & Strawberry Lemonade

IMG_4012Recently we had a huge watermelon that we weren’t eating fast enough. I didn’t want it to go bad, so I cut up half of it and threw it in the freezer to make this simple satisfying and refreshing summer treat. Trust me, you’ll want to make it with this crazy heat wave going on right now.

Frozen Watermelon & Strawberry Lemonade

Ingredients:
2 cups frozen watermelon
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 tbsp lemon juice (I use 1 whole lemon)
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
 t
Directions:
Throw everything into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour and enjoy!

A Summer Weekend

This weekend was full of sun and softball. Friday night, Loren had his last game before the tournament on Saturday. His team won their game and I was super proud of him!
We spent the night at my sister’s and had so much fun with the crazy and hilarious nephews.

This isn’t how to eat a sundae?

IMG_3961 Saturday morning after breakfast, I headed to the field with Dawn and the boys to watch our husbands/dad play their first game of the day. They won that one, but unfortunately lost the next two. It was still a pretty good season for the team overall and maybe we’ll do it again next year!
When Loren and I got back home, we had a little date night and finally went to see The Jungle Book. It was really good and the perfect end to a wonderful day!

Picnic time!

Sunday was pretty relaxing – after church, we had lunch with some new friends, went home for a nap, cleaned up the apartment, worked on some projects and got ready for another busy week.

How was your summer weekend?

Oh hey, Friday! Glad you stopped by again.

IMG_3953ONE // After talking about it for months, I finally made an appointment and got my hair done. I’ve never colored my hair before, but have been wanting to try out balayage. Still looks pretty natural and I love it!! So here is an obligatory awkward bathroom selfie (don’t ask how many outtakes there were).
No-Bake Energy Bites -- quick and easy to make, naturally sweetened with honey, and SO delicious! Perfect for a quick breakfast, snack, or even a healthy dessert. Gluten-free / Vegan. | gimmesomeoven.com

TWO // Easy No-Bake Energy Bites. These bites are the perfect snack and so easy to make!

IMG_3920

THREE // We finally upgraded our dumbbells (Loren doesn’t use the pink ones 😉 ). Boy, do they make a difference! We’ll be the new John Cena and Ronda Rousey pretty soon.

FOUR // This post from South of Plum on why morning workouts are the best. Personally, if I don’t work out in the morning, it just doesn’t happen. Anybody else like this?

FIVE // Spotify premium. I’m near the end of my free 3-month trial and I don’t know how I’m going to go back to no ads and as many skips as I want. I’ll still love Spotify though!

That’s it for now! Have a great weekend! Ours is going to be full of softball.

Summertime Thankfulness

bethankful

This summer has been busy and slow all at the same time. And it’s been wonderful. I love my life where it is and where it’s going. But sometimes I still forget to be thankful for what I have.
This summer I am thankful for:

~ hot or iced coffee
~ an amazing husband who has finally started his dream job
~ family & friends I can text/call anytime for advice or to just catch up
~ waking up in a cool room and a comfortable bed
~ strawberry and raspberry popsicles
~ a fantastic week at the beach
~ my favorite fruits that are on sale all summer (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
~ a husband who not only puts up with, but joins in on my weird craziness
~ Friday night softball
~ our local library
~ when it’s almost light outside when I wake up at 5:30am
~ finally seeing results from working out consistently
~ driving with all the windows down
~ game nights full of friends and laughter

What are you thankful for this summer?

A Quiet One

This weekend was very laid back and not busy at all.

Friday {date} night, we tried out Pinocchio’s Original Italian Ice Cream while watching an amazing sunset with crazy clouds roll in. We heard Pinocchio’s served quite the generous ice cream portions, so Loren and I split a bowl of raspberry lemon and mocha java and they were both so good!!

IMG_3882IMG_3881

Loren started not feeling well Friday night and was out of commission all day Saturday, so while he napped and got better, I cleaned the apartment and ran errands. Unfortunately we had to cancel our game night plans with friends and watched movies instead.
Sunday Loren was feeling a lot better, so we headed to church. After lunch, we decided we needed to get out of the house for a bit and went downtown to Thirsty Scholar for an afternoon of coffee, planning and reading.

With the exception of Loren not feeling well, this weekend was super relaxing and perfect.
