ONE // Our first mommy & me item. I’m honestly not a huge fan of matching, but Emberly and I both needed winter hats and I found these cute ones, so why not?
TWO // Owl City’s new song. I’ve always been a huge Owl City fan, and he just announced a new album next year! Fireflies will always be my favorite, though.
THREE // Puppies and babies. I mean, how cute is this!!??? My friend brought her puppy over the other day and I really think Emberly needs one now. 😉 #puppyfever
FOUR // Dirty John. Pretty much everyone is obsessed with this true-crime podcast right now, and for good reason.
FIVE // This ridiculously easy and delicious 2 ingredient pumpkin bread. When I made it this week I was a little worried it would be dry, but it was just moist enough. Do yourself a favor and make it to enjoy with a good cup of coffee!
Have a fun weekend!
ONE // One year ago today we found out we were pregnant. Best news ever!!! Also one of the hardest and easiest secrets to keep. haha
TWO // Zuppa Toscana. I finally found a recipe that actually tastes very similar to Olive Garden’s classic soup. I made it last week and when Loren asks for thirds, you know it’s good. It will definitely be made on repeat this fall/winter. Now just to figure out the breadsticks!
THREE // Sam’s Club Scan & Go. This app saves me so much time at Sam’s. You just scan the items as you shop, then when done, checkout on the app and a barcode pops up that you show as you walk out the door (instead of a paper receipt). No more waiting in lines and unloading/reloading the groceries in the checkout line!
FOUR // Visiting daddy at work. This is from last week, but once in a while we like to brighten daddy’s day at work and stop by to say hi.
FIVE // Colds are not cool. For adults or babies. And Emberly has her third one in the past 9 weeks. But this NoseFrida, as gross as it looks to use, is a lifesaver for babies with colds.
Well, the baby is up from her nap, so that’s all for now. Happy Friday!
ONE // Leather pacifier clips. My amazing SIL Joanna makes all things leather and made a couple of pacifier clips for Emberly. Isn’t this one so cute??!! Check out her shop Corious for her other incredible leather goods (she’s running a giveaway until Sunday)!
TWO // Almond creamer. I’m not a huge creamer person (just a touch of milk or black kind of girl), but I do like to indulge in flavored creamers once in a while. I recently tried this almond creamer at a friend’s house and was hooked.
THREE // Baby moccasins. As much as I love Freshly Picked, I’m on a budget and don’t have $60 to spend on a pair of baby shoes. Yes, I know they are super good quality, but honestly, I would be hard pressed to spend $60 on a pair of shoes for myself, let alone a growing baby. So, Amazon $5 moccasins it is!
FOUR // Crest deep clean toothpaste. I’ve used so many “teeth whitening” toothpastes over the years, but never really found one to actually help whiten my teeth. Then I picked up this one and started noticing a difference the day after I started using it.
FIVE // L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara. I’ve had this mascara for a while, but didn’t like it at first. But this past week, I decided to start using it again, and I love it! It really helps lengthen my lashes.
How’s that for a random roundup?
Hope you have a great weekend! Loren doesn’t have a wedding this weekend, so we’ve got some fun things planned and I can’t wait!
Since I failed to do a weekend recap this week, today’s favorites are a few pictures from this past weekend in Cincinnati with Loren’s family.
ONE // This baby isn’t loved at all.
TWO // Adorable and hilarious nephews and nieces.
THREE // Niece silhouette photoshoots. Loren was playing with the girls outside after dinner, which then somehow turned into a little photoshoot. Then Rachel, who was completely fascinated by this, wanted to take a couple pictures of Loren & me. She was so cute, telling us exactly where to stand and how to pose. Guess she’s a natural!
FOUR // Saturday morning swaddle freedom. The best part of every day – releasing this happy girl from her swaddle so she can stretch like crazy.
FIVE // Saturday mornings on the patio with grandparents.
SIX // Saturday brunch with doting family.
Ok, so I know that’s six things, not five, but they were too good not to share.
It may almost be the end of the day, but here are this week’s favorites:
ONE // Meal planning. After several weeks of not planning meals and lack of organized grocery shopping (thanks to freezer meals), it felt good to start that back up this week.
TWO // This Espresso maker. Every since coffee has been appealing to me again (aka, after baby was born), I’ve been wanting to get some sort of coffee machine other than our regular coffeemaker to fully enjoy the flavor. I finally bit the bullet and purchased this authentic Italian device and can’t wait till it comes!
THREE // Copper Pearl swaddles. We’ve actually been using these for the past few weeks, and they are amazingly soft, stretchy, large and Emberly loves them (proof). If you have a baby, do yourself a favor and go get at least one!
FOUR // Flats. I’m in a wedding in a couple weeks and I’ve been searching for a cute pair of flats that I can also wear this fall. Target may be the winner here (with these and these), but Amazon also has some pretty great options (these and these)!
FIVE // Play time with my best gal. She’s starting to respond more to facial cues and it’s just the best.
Have a great weekend!
Yesterday, Loren challenged me to take 5 pictures with the “real” camera throughout the day that represented my day and to be creative with it. He has been teaching me how to adjust settings and catch the best lighting (he takes most of my blog pictures), and while I still have far to go, it was a fun challenge. So for today’s favorites, I’m going to share those 5 pictures.
ONE // Baby swing details.
TWO // Second breakfast (for me) and a napping babe on the patio while blogging.
THREE // Coffee & writing a few thank you notes.
FOUR // Rainy day baby wearing & snuggles.
FIVE // Baby down for the night (or at least a few hours).
Happy Friday and happy weekending!
When I packed my hospital back in preparation for Emberly’s birth, I looked around to see what other moms found important to take with them. Even after only packing the “necessities”, I still didn’t end up using most of what I brought. But here are five things in my hospital bag that I actually used.
ONE // Lip balm. I rarely go anywhere without lip balm anyway, but since hospital air is so dry, this was a life saver during labor and the rest of our hospital stay.
TWO // Comfortable outfit. For me, this included compression leggings and a soft, loose shirt. Much more comfortable than those beautiful hospital gowns and I felt a little more presentable for visitors.
THREE // Maternity/nursing tank bras. These ones offer great support and made nursing and everything involved with nursing easier and more comfortable.
FOUR // Boppy Nursing Pillow. This made nursing so much easier and my arms didn’t get tired from holding the baby.
FIVE // Snacks. While the hospital food was ok, I still got hungry between meals (especially during the night!) and it was wonderful to have a few snacks and candy around.
What was your favorite hospital bag necessity?
As much as I love to cook, I lose all motivation for it during the summer and am always looking for easy, fresh and quick recipes. Here are some of my current favorites that have proved to be winners (all from my Pinterest page):
ONE // Honey Chipotle BBQ Chicken Skewers. We don’t currently have a grill (thanks to apartment living), but baking/roasting them in the oven on a rack works just as well. I also love to “grill” the corn on the cob in the oven as well.
TWO // Chicken Ranch Wraps. Super quick and easy and the kitchen doesn’t get hot!
THREE // Garlic Balsamic Caprese Chicken. This marinade is the bomb. I love serving this recipe with pasta and fruit salads.
FOUR // Crockpot Sloppy Joes. Don’t want to slave over the stove? Use the slow cooker! I usually like to make a double batch of sloppy joe meat and freeze it for another day.
FIVE // Slow Cooker Chicken Gyros. Another fantastic recipe for a day you don’t want to use the oven or stove.
What are some of your summer go-to recipes?
My birthday is this weekend and we will be keeping it pretty low-key (I think, who knows what Loren has up his sleeve), just how I like it.
Here are a few favorite things on my wishlist:
ONE // Nickel and Suede earrings. I got a silver pair of these adorable leather earrings a few years ago and always get compliments when I wear them. Now I just want to add a few more to my collection!
TWO // Toms sandal wedges. Perfect for summer, cute and comfortable!
THREE // White duvet. Right now we our using our “summer” white quilt my mom made for us, but I would love to get a white duvet to replace our thick blue/gray comforter for the colder months.
FOUR // Leather Toms. I know I already have Toms on this list, but how comfortable-looking and versatile and cute are these leather cognac ones!?
FIVE // Tiramisu. This is super random, but what can I say? I don’t care for cake and tiramisu sounds pretty amazing right now.
I’ve fallen a little behind in my posting the past couple of weeks, so let’s play a little bit of catch-up with a few pictures from my friend Joy’s visit and Memorial Day.
ONE // Famous Dave’s. Apparently this is one of Joy’s favorite bbq places and she hadn’t been to one in 10 years, so when she saw that we had one up here, we obviously had to make it happen. Loren and I had never been, and it was pretty good!
TWO // Mrs. Curl. On her last visit, we took Joy to our local ice cream shop and since that was her one request while here, we definitely went more than once during her visit.
THREE // Typical pictures. This is what happens when we try to take a nice picture together. Pretty much sums up our friendship! (Don’t worry, we got a nice one, too.) So glad Joy was able to come spend a week with us!
FOUR // Memorial Day picnic. Loren’s parents came and stayed with us Sunday night, so Monday afternoon we had a Memorial Day picnic. It was the perfect weather and the perfect afternoon.
FIVE // Pool days. Our pool is finally open and I’ve ventured out a couple afternoons this week. I love summer!!
Hope you have a great weekend!
