Tall & skinny – a true Crisp. 😉
EAT
Little miss still eats every 2ish hours and nurses for 5-7 minutes. She decided to start refusing a bottle for a couple weeks, but seems to be OK with it again as long as the milk is warm.
SLEEP
Emberly caught two colds this month, and woke up to nurse every two hours during the night for the duration of the cold. When she doesn’t have a cold, she sleeps through the night (aka 6-7 hours straight after we put her down). She takes 4 1-2 hours naps a day. We also weaned her out of the swaddle and she now sleeps in a cozy sleep sack.
PLAY
We’ve mastered tummy time! I started setting her up with the Boppy as support, and she really liked that, but we exclusively use the floor now. She likes to read Brown Bear and play with her rattle toys. She rolled over from tummy to back a couple times, which may have been accidental, but she still did it! Emberly also has been doing PT about once a week to treat her acquired torticollis (stiffness of neck/preference to one side) and has been doing great!

Emberly,
You have become SO much more interactive this month! You’ve started to giggle and it’s seriously so cute. You love to be around people, and smile and jump in my arms if anyone starts talking to you. While nursing you like to suddenly stop and stare at me, then give me this huge grin and then go back to eating and it melts my heart every time. Your cheeks are the most kissable thing ever and I kiss them at least 100 times a day. You are the best little girl!

FIRSTS
You went pumpkin picking. This was actually also a first for mommy!
You went to your first petting zoo (at the pumpkin patch) but weren’t too amused. Next year!
You had your first PT session to help your torticollis. You weren’t a fan at first, but now you like it pretty fine.
You rolled over! A few times, and the rolls were pretty accidental, but it still happened.
You (we) had our first overnight without daddy and you kept me company pretty well.
You had your first puppy play date and it was seriously the cutest thing. Now if you can just convince your daddy we need a puppy…

EAT
Emberly still nurses every 2 – 2.5 hours during the day for about 10 minutes and drinks 2-3 ounces when given a bottle. My favorite time to nurse her is in the mornings when she likes to take little breaks to smile at me. At the beginning of the month, she was still waking up twice a night to nurse, but we’ve got that down to one!
SLEEP
Emberly is back in her own room in the crib, and while that first week back in her room was pretty rough, we started intentional sleep training around week 10, and now she only wakes up once in the early morning to eat. She always manages to at least get one hand out of her swaddle and likes to suck her fingers (yay for self-soothing!).
PLAY
Tummy time is still not her favorite, but we’re working on it. She kicks her legs and waves her arms excitedly when we put her down to play with her play gym and tries to reach the toys. She has discovered her hands and liked to try and stuff both of them in her mouth at the same time.
Emberly,
You LOVE to stretch and it cracks your dad and me up every single time. You like to chat, especially in the mornings and after eating. Your little personality is starting to show, and we can’t wait to continue to see it develop. You’re a relatively easy-going baby and are so much fun.
FIRSTS
You took your first long roadtrip across several state lines down to South Caroline and met so many new relatives! You fussed a little on the way down, but were a rockstar all the way back home.
You went on your first hike and slept the whole time.
You went to Hobby Lobby for the first time and loved it. Aka slept the whole time.
You had your first playdate when some friends came over for a morning.
You went on your first 5K and naturally slept the entire time.
You spent your first Sunday morning in the nursery and were amazing.

We love you so much, baby girl!

Saturday in Nature

This past weekend, we wanted to get outside for a hike, but all the good hiking locations around here are a little bit of a drive and we didn’t have a whole day to devote to it. But then we remembered that the Indianapolis Museum of Art has a nature park and we had heard that it was pretty awesome. So, Saturday afternoon, we headed to IMA’s 100 acre park that is made up of woodlands, wetlands, meadows and a 35-acre lake that also features several pieces of modern art. It was a beautiful and perfect afternoon and we will definitely be going back someday soon.

Can you spot the baby toes?

EAT
Emberly still eats about every 2 hours, and still likes to keep it pretty quick. She still takes a bottle pretty well and did fantastically when her aunt babysat her for a day.
SLEEP
Around week 7, we decided to move Emberly from our room to her own room. She sleeps pretty well in there, but we’re working on fewer nighttime awakenings. 😉 BUT at the beginning of week 8, she caught a cold so we put her back in our room for a few nights until she got over it. The sweetest moment of the day is when I go to get her in the mornings – she is usually wide awake and quietly just looking around in the dark, but when I open the curtains and and tell her “good morning”, she gets the biggest, sweetest smile on her face and starts trying to wriggle out of her swaddle. During the day she takes 1-3 hour naps in her swing or rock’n play.
PLAY
Emberly isn’t a huge fan of tummy time, so I tend to put it off, but we’re working on doing it more often. She loves to “talk” back to us with the most adorable coos and has started responsively smiling.
Emberly,
You had a little bit of a crazy week 6 when you decided to randomly cry for no reason. We were usually able to calm you down after a while, but thankfully you have outgrown this now. You have started smiling at us, and it’s seriously the best thing. You love bathtime with daddy and taking walks with mommy.
FIRSTS
You had your first passport picture taken and your hair looks hilarious. Thankfully, it doesn’t completely look like that in real life.
You went on your first (and second) photoshoot with mommy & daddy and were a trooper.
You had your first major blowout all over dad and were quite pleased with yourself afterwards.
You had an (almost) full day away from mom while she was in a wedding. Aunt Carrie watched you and you both had the best time (except during tummy time).
You suffered through you first cold like a champ and were still mostly a happy baby.
You went on your first coffee date with mommy & daddy.

EAT
Emberly loves to eat but doesn’t take her time with it. We were blessed with a perfect latch from the beginning and after about the first week, she became quite the efficient and fast eater. She eats every 2-3 hours during the day and struggled to stay awake for a full feeding at the beginning. Since she hadn’t quite gained back her birth weight by her first pediatrician visit, the dr. put her on Vitamin D, and since then she’s been filling out quite nicely. I mean, just check out those arm and leg rolls! Around week 4 we introduced the bottle, which she took like a champ, and has no trouble going back and forth from bottle to mom.

SLEEP

Girl loves to sleep and will pretty much sleep through anything – trumpet concerts (thanks to the neighbor), Sunday morning worship, at the mall, in the car, etc. She takes several 2ish hour naps throughout the day and sleeps 2-4 hours straight at night.

Emberly,

You really are the sweetest baby. You pretty much only fuss when you’re hungry or have a dirty diaper. I love your little grin (even if it just means you’re passing gas or pooping) and whenever you open your sweet little eyes.

You had so many FIRSTS this month!
Your first Sunday at church you slept like a baby through the whole worship service and sermon.
Your first visit to the pediatrician you didn’t like being undressed, but you didn’t mind the Dr.’s poking and prodding.
You met SO many friends and family and charmed them all.
You loved your first bath and continue to enjoy it every night (as long as you’re fed).
You joined your dad & me on a date night on the Canal.
You and I had our first girls’ trip to Target & Starbucks and have had a few more since then.
You visited daddy at work and he enjoyed showing you off to all his coworkers.
You stayed with your first babysitters – grandma & grandpa Crisp – for a couple of hours and were pretty good for most of the time.

You went on your first road trip to visit your grandparents and great-grandmothers and were loved on by so many people.
