Thanksgiving 2017

This year, after the past 2 Thanksgivings down South, we had another one in Cincinnati with Loren’s family and it was such a good time.  Since we packed in so many fun things this holiday weekend, this post is chock-full with pictures of all the things I want to remember.

We headed out for Cincinnati after Loren got off work on Wednesday evening and arrived in time for Emberly to hang out with her aunts, uncle and grandparents for a little bit before she went to bed. After putting her down for the night, the rest of us played a fun game before going to bed at a semi-decent hour.

Emberly had a pretty rough night (not being used to sharing a room with her parents), so Thanksgiving morning Loren let me sleep in a  little bit before a leisurely breakfast with everyone. After breakfast, we visited the grandmas (E’s great-grandmas) and then came back home to relax and finish getting dinner ready before the rest of the family members showed up (there were 30 of us!). Once everyone arrived, we snapped some family pictures, stuffed ourselves with all the delicious food, sang a few Thanksgiving songs and caught up on each other’s lives. So many wonderful family members to be thankful for!

Cousins, Murder Mystery & Bogo

This weekend was another full and good one!

This actually happened during the week, but Emberly finally met some cousins on my side of the family! Her cousin Pepper is a little over 2 months old and they have already decided to be best friends. 😉

Friday evening we left E with our babysitter, then headed out for a Murder Mystery Dinner (last year). It was so much fun to dress up, eat a good dinner, laugh with friends and solve the murder.

Loren was the Butler and I was the young rich widow
The Gypsy (and guilty one!!) and Dr.
The Chauffeur and Cook

Saturday morning we slept in, then Miss E got a little morning bath while I finished my coffee.

Later that afternoon, we took advantage of the Starbucks holiday drink bogo (carmel brulee latte, anyone!?) before heading out to a photoshoot we did for some friends.

Carmel brulee lattee – the only speciality drink I really care about

After the photoshoot we hurried home to get ready for dinner w/Smiths. It had been way too long and it was so good to catch up over dinner and dessert.

Sunday evening we had a teen activity at church and Emberly was being hilarious entertaining the teens and being entertained by them. She loves people!

Weekend Catchup

I totally failed in posting anything last week, so let’s catch up a little. We spent most of last weekend celebrating Vashti and Andrew. We had the rehearsal & dinner on Friday night, then the wedding on Saturday. I was a bridesmaid and Loren was the photographer, so Emberly got to spend the day with her Aunt Carrie and had the best time. This wedding was seriously one of the sweetest I’ve been to/in. Many happy tears were shed and we are SO happy for Vashti & Andrew!! I didn’t take any pics that day (left that to Loren 😉 ), so I just stole a couple of his.

Aren’t they just the cutest!?

Last Monday we celebrated 5 years of dating. I can’t believe it’s been that long! We had dinner at Cheddar’s to celebrate, since that’s where it all became official. And this time around, we didn’t mind our little third-wheeler one bit. 😉

This past weekend, we got out for a little evening walk at a nearby park on Friday. It’s been cooler in the mornings and evenings, but Miss E was quite content in her little cocoon.

Saturday, Loren headed out early for Dayton to shoot another wedding, and Emberly and I had a girls’ day. She had gotten a cold a couple days earlier, but was still her usual happy self. 🙂 We did a little consignment shopping (yay for Once Upon a Child!) and had story and nap time on the patio.

Sunday afternoon, we hit up a downtown coffee shop to get some work done.

How has your week been?

Life Lately

I’ve been rather absent from the blog since baby’s arrival, but it’s time to pick things up again! Starting off my official return with a few recent life highlights:

Emberly had her first Dr. visit and wasn’t a huge fan of getting naked for that.

We broke out the stroller and had our first family walk, which also happened to be daddy’s first day back at work.

I took Emberly on her first Starbucks and Target run – teaching her the important things in life! 😉 Also, why can’t all stores have grocery carts as smooth as Target!?

We had a Friday night family ice cream date and walk along the Canal.

Several family members and friends came to meet Emberly.

My cousin Dennae and her husband Daniel all the way from SC
Blake warmed up to the idea of holding a fresh baby. 😉
Cincinnati cousins & aunt & uncle
Joanna & Jeffrey also came all the way from SC to meet E
And of course the grandparents

When Loren’s parents came for a visit this past weekend, they babysat Emberly for a couple hours and Loren and I snuck away for a baby-free coffee date.

This past weekend, I had the privilege of helping host a bridal shower for my friend Vashti. It was so much fun (and these are all the pictures I got)!

And one more baby picture because she’s just too cute.

That’s about it for now!
We’re are taking our first roadtrip (just to Cincinnati) with baby this weekend, so we’ll see how that goes!

Anniversary/Babymoon Trip (Michigan City, IN)

I’m finally sharing 100 million pictures from our anniversary trip last weekend! We had a hard time deciding where to go this year (not too far from home, not too pricey, etc.) and finally decided on Michigan City, IN. We had heard that the Indiana Dunes were pretty amazing, and since Michigan City is on Lake Michigan, we knew there would be some beaches. And of course I made sure there were at least a couple of good places to eat and get coffee. The weather was perfect (warmer than we were expecting!), and we had a lovely time. The perfect little anniversary/babymoon getaway.

Where we stayed:
We found a cozy little little Airbnb – In the woods, about 10 minutes from food and the beach, with a few walking trails on the property.

Little Ballerinas and Game Cafe

What a whirlwind of a wonderful weekend!

Friday as soon as I wrapped up work, we jumped in the car and drove through some crazy rain to Cincinnati and made it just in time for the nieces’ first dance recital. Their part was pretty short, but they were adorable and perfect and it was just the cutest recital ever. 🙂

Loren’s parents let us sleep at their house even though they were out of town, and Saturday morning we woke up to the thunder, lightning and torrential rain still going strong. When the rain finally mostly let up, we looked outside and the backyard was partially flooded, as well as part of the outside basement stairwell. We threw on some raincoats and bailed out most of the water from the stairwell (don’t worry, Loren did most of the lifting & bucket carrying). It was actually pretty fun to be out in the rain!
Eventually we headed out and I dropped Loren off for a day of wedding shooting, then went over to Emily’s for lunch and to look at some baby clothes she was letting me borrow. Nothing like getting some extra nephew & niece time in, too!
Later that afternoon, Emily and I headed downtown for a little birthday party for a friend. We made candles at The Candle Lab and had a delicious dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant (Abigail Street).

Sunday morning we headed back to Indy for church (Loren currently teaches the teen Sunday school class), then had Caleb & Chelsea over for our monthly get-together. After a late lunch, we decided to try out the new Kingmakers Board Game Parlour. Basically, you pay a small fee to use any of the wide variety of board and card games, order drinks or snacks, then play away! We had the whole place to ourselves and played several games none of us had played before. We will definitely be going back!

I hope you had a wonderful last April weekend!

Weekend Brunch at Milktooth

Instead of listing everything we did this weekend, I’m just going to post about one of the highlights.
We decided to push our date night from Friday night to a brunch date on Saturday. I really wanted to go on a hike since the weather had been nice all week, but then a storm came through Friday night brought the cold again. So we opted for brunch instead. I’d been wanting to introduce Loren to Milktooth ever since I went with some of my coworkers for my birthday, and it finally happened. Milktooth is just open for breakfast and lunch and was pretty hopping that morning, but we didn’t mind waiting to be seated while we sipped some of their delicious coffees.
Each of their menu entrees has some kind of unexpected, yet delicious, twist. Like the cranberry walnut & TP caerphilly cheddar grilled cheese with black truffle honey and local sunny duck egg that Loren ordered and the sourdough carrot cake waffle with shredded carrot, pineapple cream, spiced maple and walnuts that I ordered. Both were delicious!! Their fresh-pressed orange juice is also worth noting.
Overall, a fun date exploring another local eats of Indianapolis.

I hope you had a great weekend as well!

Weekend in the Sunny “C” Cities

Friday night wasn’t too exciting – Loren had been feeling like he was coming down with something all week, and he did come down with a fever Friday afternoon. I sent him straight to bed and then picked up dinner (chicken noodle soup). We had dinner after he napped for a while, then went to bed pretty early because 1) Loren was sick and 2) if he was feeling any better, we were heading to Columbus, OH very early the next morning.

Early Saturday morning Loren decided he was feeling ok, so we jumped in the car and headed to Columbus, OH for a wedding Loren was helping shoot. After dropping him off, I had the rest of the day to myself. My first stop was World Market where I discovered that the elephant pillow I really wanted the last time I stopped in was on sale! So the first item for baby girl’s nursery has been acquired. 🙂 After I did some other shopping and scored some amazing President’s Day deals, I thought about catching a movie, but decided the day was way too perfect and sunny to sit inside a dark theater. Instead, I camped out at Cup O’ Joe for a few hours and read. Eventually I headed to the hotel and checked in, grabbed dinner and hung out until it was time to pick up Loren.

Sunday morning, we left Columbus and headed to Cincinnati for our nephew’s dedication service. After church, we had a fun lunch with the family catching up. Always good to see them all! Loren had a meeting back at home Sunday night, so we headed back home late afternoon after a quick stop at IKEA for some organizing necessities.

And that’s it (probably way too much boring info)!
I hope you got out and enjoyed the beautiful sunny spring-like weekend!

Coffee & Friends Weekend

Nothing like a weekend recap on a Wednesday!

Friday {date} night, I was going to make tacos at home for dinner, but going out for “real” Mexican just sounded better. So that’s exactly what we did! We had a nice dinner reconnecting over chips & salsa and other Mexican goodness, then went to BabiesRUs to check out some car seats (never to early, right?) and buy baby girl’s first outfit. I’m really stuck on an elephant theme for this baby girl, and found this perfect outfit.

Saturday morning we got in a workout before Loren’s sister & her husband came for the day. Once they arrived, we chatted and played a game of Pandemic before lunch, then headed out to try a few local Indy coffee shops (reviews below so I don’t forget). After all the coffee, we decided we need a snack and stopped at Long’s Bakery to introduce them to our favorite donuts before Heather and Marcus headed home.

Kaffeine Coffee – located just off the popular Mass Ave in an old warehouse. Old, cozy feeling; not a ton of seating.
Cappuccino – creamy espresso perfection.
Pour over – dark roast, rich woody flavor, musky scent.
Overall, pure delicious flavors (they don’t use syrups!).
9/10

Quills Coffee – located just off the Canal in the lobby area of an apartment building (I need to move here!). Plenty of seating and overall cozy atmosphere. Specializes in seasonal coffees from all over the world.
Pour over – medium Ethiopian roast, hint of tangerine and graham cracker.
9/10

Rabble Coffee – One of the newest coffee shops in town. Run by a new young business owner, this little shop is the perfect mix of eclectic, friendly, artistic and cozy.
Cappuccino – straight up perfect and delicious (yes, I know this is a great description).
10/10

Sunday evening we had some of the Daku kids over for a long-overdue game night. We played a variety of fun and crazy games, ending with hide-and-seek in the dark. Never a dull moment with these guys!

1 Down, 51 to Go

This first weekend of 2017 was pretty quiet and quite nice.

Friday {date} night, Loren and I had dinner at home then decided to go out for a fancy dessert. We got a recommendation from a friend and headed downtown to Tinker Street Restaurant for their famous S’more Pot de Creme (chocolate mousse with marshmallow creme) and Tinker Street Layered Parfait (mango and raspberry sorbet). Both of the desserts were fantastic and we definitely want to go back for dinner sometime. It was so fun to have this little date and explore a little more of Indianapolis!

Blurry phone pic, but proof that Loren was also there 😉

Saturday Loren was in Cincinnati all day shooting another wedding, but I stayed home this time to get random projects and cleaning and errands done. Nothing too exciting to report there.

Sunday afternoon after church, lunch and naps, we decided to get out of the house for a couple of hours and spent some time at Quills Coffee reading and journaling. We closed out the weekend making dinner together and preparing for a busy week ahead.

I hope you had a lovely first weekend of the year!
