Five on Friday // 8-4-17

It may almost be the end of the day, but here are this week’s favorites:

ONE // Meal planning. After several weeks of not planning meals and lack of organized grocery shopping (thanks to freezer meals), it felt good to start that back up this week.

TWO // This Espresso maker. Every since coffee has been appealing to me again (aka, after baby was born), I’ve been wanting to get some sort of coffee machine other than our regular coffeemaker to fully enjoy the flavor. I finally bit the bullet and purchased this authentic Italian device and can’t wait till it comes!

THREE // Copper Pearl swaddles. We’ve actually been using these for the past few weeks, and they are amazingly soft, stretchy, large and Emberly loves them (proof). If you have a baby, do yourself a favor and go get at least one!

FOUR // Flats. I’m in a wedding in a couple weeks and I’ve been searching for a cute pair of flats that I can also wear this fall. Target may be the winner here (with these and these), but Amazon also has some pretty great options (these and these)!

FIVE // Play time with my best gal. She’s starting to respond more to facial cues and it’s just the best.

Have a great weekend!

Five on Friday // 7-28-17

Yesterday, Loren challenged me to take 5 pictures with the “real” camera throughout the day that represented my day and to be creative with it. He has been teaching me how to adjust settings and catch the best lighting (he takes most of my blog pictures), and while I still have far to go, it was a fun challenge. So for today’s favorites, I’m going to share those 5 pictures.

ONE // Baby swing details.

TWO // Second breakfast (for me) and a napping babe on the patio while blogging.

THREE // Coffee & writing a few thank you notes.

FOUR // Rainy day baby wearing & snuggles.

FIVE // Baby down for the night (or at least a few hours).

Happy Friday and happy weekending!

Five on Friday [summer recipes edition] // 6-30-17

As much as I love to cook, I lose all motivation for it during the summer and am always looking for easy, fresh and quick recipes. Here are some of my current favorites that have proved to be winners (all from my Pinterest page):

ONE // Honey Chipotle BBQ Chicken Skewers. We don’t currently have a grill (thanks to apartment living), but baking/roasting them in the oven on a rack works just as well. I also love to “grill” the corn on the cob in the oven as well.

TWO // Chicken Ranch Wraps. Super quick and easy and the kitchen doesn’t get hot!

THREE // Garlic Balsamic Caprese Chicken. This marinade is the bomb. I love serving this recipe with pasta and fruit salads.

FOUR // Crockpot Sloppy Joes. Don’t want to slave over the stove? Use the slow cooker! I usually like to make a double batch of sloppy joe meat and freeze it for another day.

FIVE // Slow Cooker Chicken Gyros. Another fantastic recipe for a day you don’t want to use the oven or stove.

What are some of your summer go-to recipes?

Five on Friday [birthday wishlist edition] // 6-9-17

My birthday is this weekend and we will be keeping it pretty low-key (I think, who knows what Loren has up his sleeve), just how I like it.
Here are a few favorite things on my wishlist:

ONE // Nickel and Suede earrings. I got a silver pair of these adorable leather earrings a few years ago and always get compliments when I wear them. Now I just want to add a few more to my collection!

TWO // Toms sandal wedges. Perfect for summer, cute and comfortable!

THREE // White duvet. Right now we our using our “summer” white quilt my mom made for us, but I would love to get a white duvet to replace our thick blue/gray comforter for the colder months.

FOUR // Leather Toms. I know I already have Toms on this list, but how comfortable-looking and versatile and cute are these leather cognac ones!?

FIVE // Tiramisu. This is super random, but what can I say? I don’t care for cake and tiramisu sounds pretty amazing right now.

Happy weekending!

Five on Friday [weekend recap edition] // 6-2-17

I’ve fallen a little behind in my posting the past couple of weeks, so let’s play a little bit of catch-up with a few pictures from my friend Joy’s visit and Memorial Day.

ONE // Famous Dave’s. Apparently this is one of Joy’s favorite bbq places and she hadn’t been to one in 10 years, so when she saw that we had one up here, we obviously had to make it happen. Loren and I had never been, and it was pretty good!

TWO // Mrs. Curl. On her last visit, we took Joy to our local ice cream shop and since that was her one request while here, we definitely went more than once during her visit.

THREE // Typical pictures. This is what happens when we try to take a nice picture together. Pretty much sums up our friendship! (Don’t worry, we got a nice one, too.) So glad Joy was able to come spend a week with us!

FOUR // Memorial Day picnic. Loren’s parents came and stayed with us Sunday night, so Monday afternoon we had a Memorial Day picnic. It was the perfect weather and the perfect afternoon.

FIVE // Pool days. Our pool is finally open and I’ve ventured out a couple afternoons this week. I love summer!!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Five on Friday [anniversary edition] // 5-12-17

In light of today being our 3rd wedding anniversary, I’m sharing 5 favorites memories (besides our wedding day) from the past married years. I must say, it was very hard to narrow these down.

ONE //  Our honeymoon. We spent a couple days in Charleston, SC, then boarded a ship for a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas. It was such a fun, relaxing time together exploring Charleston and eating all the soft serve we wanted on the cruise.

TWO // Our many roadtrips in the VW Beetle. The summer we got married, we spent many hours in my beloved little beetle taking roadtrips to friends’ weddings, apartment hunting (for our move to from SC to IN), family events and last minute picnics on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

THREE // 1st Anniversary trip to Chicago. Our first vacation (besides the honeymoon) after getting married – Loren had just finished his first year of grad school, and it was nice to just get out of town for a long weekend. Exploring a new city and eating delicious food was just a bonus. 😉

FOUR // Our 2016 Charleston vacation. Apparently I just like to get away with my man. lol But Charleston is my favorite city in the world, so any time spent there is a favorite memory. 😉 A perfect week spent on the beach, drinking coffee on our little porch, paddleboarding, meandering the city streets, etc.

FIVE // Finding out we were going to be parents. Does this even need an explanation? Needless to say, we were/are both pretty stoked!

There are SO many other memories that I treasure (exploring new coffee shops, babysitting nephews & nieces, birthday dates, Loren’s graduation, late night Office binges, random photoshoots in unusual locations) and I always look forward to the next adventure with my favorite person in the world.

I love you and choose you every day, Loren! Happy Anniversary!

Five on Friday // 4-7-17

ONE // Homemade granola. I tried my hand at granola this week (used this recipe) and it turned out pretty well! So much cheaper than buying it.

TWO // Fawn Design diaper bag. I can’t decided whether I really want this Fawn Design diaper bag (in brown) or this Lily Jade bag. I’m looking for something practical, classy, versatile and will last for several years (and kids). Either way it will be an investment. Any suggestions?

THREE // Sheet Pan Shrimp Boil. My mom used to make this growing up, and I rediscovered it on Pinterest this week. Super fast, easy and delicious!

FOUR // Bip & Bop jewelry. Loren got me their gold bar necklace for my birthday a couple years ago and I love how delicate it is. I can’t wait to get a necklace like this with our daughter’s initial & birth date!

FIVE // Bitmoji. I realize by now this is old and completely ridiculous, but Loren and I often have full text conversations with Bitmojis and it’s hilarious. You design an avatar to look like you, then it generates all these little comics.

Happy Friday!

Five on Friday // 3-31-17

Happy Friday and last day of March!

ONE // I’ve tried a couple new recipes this week, and this Chipotle Chicken Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes recipe was a winner.

TWO // This candle I found at Target on clearance. Nothing like a fresh new candle for spring!THREE // FaveReds Starburst Jellybeans. My Easter candy weakness.

FOUR // Rediscovering this Diddle Mouse stationary from my childhood. This stuff was gold and we used to trade it in elementary school. Anyone else remember this? Basically the German version of Lisa Frank.

FIVE // Loren’s sweet family is throwing us a baby shower next weekend, and we already received a gift from family who couldn’t make it. I can’t wait to celebrate baby girl. 🙂

Have a great weekend!

Five on Friday [nursery inspiration] // 3-17-17

Even though we aren’t quite ready yet to switch the office/guest room to a nursery, I’ve been collecting ideas so I’m ready when we do start. I want to keep it pretty simple, so here are a few of those ideas (all pictures courtesy of Pinterest):

ONE // A dresser for clothes and changing station. Baby girl won’t have a closet, so I’m also going to have to figure out how to hang up her little dresses creatively.

TWO // This small IKEA cart for all things diaper. Easy access and won’t take up dresser space!

THREE // Collage over the changing station/dresser. Probably a little simpler than this, but I love this idea.

FOUR // Banner with name over crib. This picture might be a tad too frilly for me, but I do like the overall neutrals and pops of color.

FIVE // Elephants. I’ve always loved grey with pops of yellow, and elephants fit perfectly in to that theme. 🙂

What ideas would you suggest?

Five on Friday [spring style edition] // 3-10-17

Spring keeps tempting us here in Indiana (60s last weekend, 30s this weekend), but I’ve been enjoying every warmer moment and ray of sunshine. So with spring coming, here’s a roundup of some of my favorite spring styles:

ONE // A lightweight vest. I love my olive military vest and wear it all the time. It can be dressed up and down. Here and cheaper version here.

TWO // I’ve seen a lot of blush around for this spring, and I’m loving this cardigan and these shoes. (BTW, Kilee has amazing style, and you should follow her if you don’t!)

THREE // Maxi skirt & chambray shirt. I’m not a huge maxi skirt fan, but I do love this look. Plus, maxi skirts are pretty comfortable.

FOUR // “Pinky swear” nail polish. I recently stumbled upon wet n wild’s 1 Step Wondergel polish. So much cheaper than all the other gel polishes out there and works just as well. Plus, it comes off super easily!

FIVE // Toms. While I still like to wear my booties in the spring, I mostly live in my Toms because they are easy to slip on, cute with anything and super comfortable.

What are your favorite spring fashion items?
