Welcome to this past weekend’s short recap. We did several things, but only a few moments were photo-documented.
Thursday night, I met up with some girls from work for what I thought was going to be a regular girls’ night, but they had planned an adorable elephant-themed surprise baby shower for me! They were all so generous and baby girl was quite spoiled once again.
Friday night I had another girls’ night, this time with a few girls from church. We ate good food, chatted and had an all-around great time.
Saturday’s highlights included a late-morning graduation party and our annual Daku pancake and cartoon party. Sadly, not all of them could make it, but we still had a good time and ate way too many pancakes.
Sunday was pretty quiet after church, but we did get out to take our annual summer photobooth shots. I have no idea how these became a tradition, but we started them the summer we got married, and plan on taking them every year as long as we can. It’s fun to see how we change every year!
Guys! It’s Monday! And I’m doing a weekend recap! Lately I’ve been slacking on recapping our weekends on time and they haven’t appeared until Wednesday.
Anyway, here are a few highlights from my birthday weekend:
I painted some shelves for the nursery, which we hung up, as well as arranged and set up some other things. It’s all coming together and I think we’re pretty much ready for baby girl’s arrival!
Saturday evening we had a little picnic & ice cream date at Mrs. Curl (apparently we can’t get enough this summer) in the perfect summer weather.
Sunday morning (my actual birthday) we headed to our church’s annual picnic & baptism. It was such a blessing and encouragement to see so many take that next step in their faith and then to fellowship with everyone during the picnic.
Sunday afternoon, I opened my gifts from Loren (these shoes!!), took a nap, then later on that evening we ventured downtown for dinner at Tinker Street. I was pretty set on having tiramisu for my birthday cake, so we found a place that did takeout and went and enjoyed it on the Circle. Eventually we came home and started a movie – the perfect ending to a perfect low-key birthday. 🙂
This weekend was another full and wonderful one. It started off with a Friday night date night to get donuts in celebration of National Donut Day, but the donuts were all sold out! So we settled for a Chick-fil-A peach milkshake. Still a win in my book! Later that night, Loren’s sister & her husband came to stay with us for a couple nights.
Saturday morning we took our time over breakfast, then decided to all go work out together for a while. Then it was time for me to head to a baby shower some friends from church were throwing for baby girl! Everything was perfect and I was very blessed by everyone that came. Their generosity was overwhelming and I can’t wait for baby girl to meet everyone! (Pictures from shower courtesy of Ally and Vashti.)
Meanwhile, Loren took Joanna and Jeffrey to a local coffeeshop, but apparently all the local ones close rather early on Saturdays in the summer, so they went across the street for some root beer floats instead.
After the shower, Loren & co picked me up and we eventually headed downtown to do a little evening photoshoot for Joanna & Jeffrey. They are seriously the perfect models!
Sunday after church & lunch, we sadly had to say goodbye to Joanna & Jeffrey. It’s always so good to see them and we can’t wait till next time!
This past weekend we were in Cincinnati and ventured out to the nation’s longest running culinary arts festival (Taste of Cincinnati) with our friends Caleb and Chelsea. Basically, a few streets are blocked off downtown and several of Cincinnati’s top restaurants set up booths to sell “tastes” of their best food. We walked down the whole length of the festival to scout out our options before deciding on what we wanted. Even between the 4 of us, we only tasted a fraction of the food options, but they were all delicious (not everything we ate made it on camera). There was rain in the forecast for that afternoon, but it never came and it was the perfect afternoon for wandering around stuffing our faces with delectable food.
Thanks for the fun, Cincinnati (and Caleb & Chelsea 😉 )!
The sun came back this weekend!! Just in time Friday evening for our drive to see our friend Savannah direct her middle school musical. The kids did an amazing job performing Lion King Jr. and it was fun to see all the hard work Savannah has put into it this semester.
When we got home, Loren disappeared into the office, then reappeared a short while later with…the nerf guns. So we had us a good ol’ fun nerf gun battle in the mostly-dark apartment. Nothing like a little late-night adrenaline rush!
Saturday was a pretty random day. Loren hung out at Starbucks for a while writing his lesson plan for Sunday school while I ran some errands. When he got home, he took on the project of spray painting the diaper cart for the nursery. While the first coat was drying, we had a little Chipotle & haircut (for Loren) date, then came home to finish painting the cart and relax the rest of the evening.
Sunday I had the privilege of subbing in the 4s & 5s Sunday school class, and the kids were pretty hilarious. One of them noticed Loren wasn’t with me (he usually helps me, but was with the teens) and asked “Where’s your dad?” Another one noticed my large belly, pointed to it and wanted to know “What is that?” Out of the mouth of babes.
After church we had lunch with some friends, came home and took a little walk in the beautiful sunshine to watch another friend’s soccer game.
Maybe this week the weather will stay more May-ish!
Friday as soon as I wrapped up work, we jumped in the car and drove through some crazy rain to Cincinnati and made it just in time for the nieces’ first dance recital. Their part was pretty short, but they were adorable and perfect and it was just the cutest recital ever. 🙂
Loren’s parents let us sleep at their house even though they were out of town, and Saturday morning we woke up to the thunder, lightning and torrential rain still going strong. When the rain finally mostly let up, we looked outside and the backyard was partially flooded, as well as part of the outside basement stairwell. We threw on some raincoats and bailed out most of the water from the stairwell (don’t worry, Loren did most of the lifting & bucket carrying). It was actually pretty fun to be out in the rain!
Eventually we headed out and I dropped Loren off for a day of wedding shooting, then went over to Emily’s for lunch and to look at some baby clothes she was letting me borrow. Nothing like getting some extra nephew & niece time in, too!
Later that afternoon, Emily and I headed downtown for a little birthday party for a friend. We made candles at The Candle Lab and had a delicious dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant (Abigail Street).
Sunday morning we headed back to Indy for church (Loren currently teaches the teen Sunday school class), then had Caleb & Chelsea over for our monthly get-together. After a late lunch, we decided to try out the new Kingmakers Board Game Parlour. Basically, you pay a small fee to use any of the wide variety of board and card games, order drinks or snacks, then play away! We had the whole place to ourselves and played several games none of us had played before. We will definitely be going back!
I blinked, and it’s already Wednesday! Rather late for a weekend post, but this past weekend still needs to be documented.
Friday night, I had a fun girls’ night with some coworkers while Loren worked on some projects at home.
Back up story before Saturday: last week we found out that we needed to replace one of cars as soon as possible. The brakes were shot (amongst some other things), and the repairs just weren’t worth the value of the car. So this past week, we’ve been looking up cars in our price range and area and went and looked at a couple on Thursday night. Then on Saturday we spent a majority of the morning doing some more research before looking at another car, which we ended up testing overnight and having a mechanic examine. We were struggling to decide between two similar cars, but put all that aside for a few hours and had some friends over for a game night. It had been way too long and we need to have another one again sooner. Thanks for all the laughs and good talks, guys!
Sunday afternoon, we worked on some projects (finished up baby’s dresser!), took a walk in the beautiful spring sunshine and decided which car to buy.
And we’re throwing Monday in here as well, because that’s when we said goodbye to our good old faithful Mazda Tribute (read her story here) and welcomed Mazda CX-5 to the family.
This past week we’ve had the most beautiful spring weather and I’ve been soaking it in as much as possible.
We pushed date night to Thursday night and finally saw Beauty and the Beast. Guys! It was amazing!!! I loved everything about it. Just do yourself a favor and go see it.
Loren took the day off on Friday, and in between my work shifts we ran some errands together, then headed to our church’s thought-provoking Good Friday service.
Saturday we spent the majority of the day helping some friends paint their new house. Can’t wait to see it when it’s all done and they can finally move in!
Sunday was Easter! We had a wonderful morning at church fellowshipping with our church family and praising & worshiping the Lord. He is risen indeed!
After church we didn’t take any pictures while dressed up, but finished making dinner together, then had a little Easter picnic on the balcony. It was perfect! That afternoon, I decided to make a strawberry tart while Loren kept plugging away at putting together the IKEA dresser for baby girl’s nursery.
This weekend we headed to Cincinnati where Loren’s family threw us the sweetest baby shower. Since I’m doing an elephant-themed nursery, they went along with that theme for the shower as well. My two nieces even made sure to bring several of their own elephants from home to place around for decorations. Everything from the food to decorations to flowers to games to gifts was thought out and planned perfectly and we felt quite spoiled!
So grateful for all these wonderful ladies and their love for the newest little Crisp lady! 🙂 Thank you so much to each and every one of you!!
Friday evening & Saturday I was supposed to attend our church’s ladies retreat in Nashville, IN, but I got a nasty cold Wednesday/Thursday and wasn’t feeling up to much on Friday. So I stayed home Friday night (and drank lots of fluids and slept as much as I could all day) and felt good enough to go for Saturday’s sessions. It was a blessing to fellowship with the other ladies and study some of the characteristics of God. Since Nashville is a small town known for its quaint little shops and restaurants, we naturally also did a little shopping.
Sunday afternoon we crossed several things off our to-do list (including taxes!), then went for a little date at Mrs. Curl’s and walked around a close-by park.
I hope you had a great weekend and got outside once the sun came out. 🙂
