A Morning at Apple Works

We have so many apple orchards/pumpkin patches in our area, but this past Saturday, we decided to check out Apple Works with some friends. Apple Works is perfect for kids – they have a petting zoo, trails, horse rides, a playground with a zip line, tractor rides and a huge pumpkin patch. In addition to the fun things for kids, they have a pretty decent country store with everything from preserves & jellies to all kinds of baked goods to fudge.
Our first stop was to get a huge apple fritter from the Ice Cream Shoppe, and it was amazing. We then headed to over to the petting zoo to check out all the animals.

After the petting zoo and horse ride for the 2-year-old, we hopped on the tractor for a ride to the pumpkin patch! The pumpkin patch was pretty big, and we took our time selecting the best pumpkins.

The cutest pumpkin. πŸ˜‰

A little change & lunch break.

It was such a beautiful and fun morning, and I can’t wait to take Emberly back next year when she will appreciate the animals a little more.
Thanks for all the fun, Apple Works and H family! πŸ™‚

Saturday in Nature

This past weekend, we wanted to get outside for a hike, but all the good hiking locations around here are a little bit of a drive and we didn’t have a whole day to devote to it. But then we remembered that the Indianapolis Museum of Art has a nature park and we had heard that it was pretty awesome. So, Saturday afternoon, we headed to IMA’s 100 acre parkΒ that is made up of woodlands, wetlands, meadows and a 35-acre lake that also features several pieces of modern art. It was a beautiful and perfect afternoon and we will definitely be going back someday soon.

Can you spot the baby toes?

Weekend in the South

A few weeks ago, we decided to make our way down South Carolina for Labor Day weekend so Emberly could meet more of relatives (finally some on my side!).

So, this past Friday, Emberly and I packed up and picked up Loren after work around 3pm, then we headed out of town with the rest of the Midwest. Or so it seemed between the rain and crazy traffic. Emberly did great at first, got fussy during the heavy rain and traffic, then eventually fell asleep for pretty much the rest of the trip. We pulled in to my aunt’s around 2:30am, exhausted, but so glad to be there.

One of her happier moments on the drive.

We spent the weekend visiting and catching up with so many relatives and a few friends, and since we took so many pictures, I’ll just let them do the talking.

Meeting Opa (my dad)! Just sad that Oma wasn’t there.
Skyping with Oma (my mom).
GG (my grandma) – E eventually decided to take a nap with her. πŸ™‚

Weekend Catchup

I totally failed in posting anything last week, so let’s catch up a little. We spent most of last weekend celebrating Vashti and Andrew. We had the rehearsal & dinner on Friday night, then the wedding on Saturday. I was a bridesmaid and Loren was the photographer, so Emberly got to spend the day with her Aunt Carrie and had the best time. This wedding was seriously one of the sweetest I’ve been to/in. Many happy tears were shed and we are SO happy for Vashti & Andrew!! I didn’t take any pics that day (left that to Loren πŸ˜‰ ), so I just stole a couple of his.

Aren’t they just the cutest!?

Last Monday we celebrated 5 years of dating. I can’t believe it’s been that long! We had dinner at Cheddar’s to celebrate, since that’s where it all became official. And this time around, we didn’t mind our little third-wheeler one bit. πŸ˜‰

This past weekend, we got out for a little evening walk at a nearby park on Friday. It’s been cooler in the mornings and evenings, but Miss E was quite content in her little cocoon.

Saturday, Loren headed out early for Dayton to shoot another wedding, and Emberly and I had a girls’ day. She had gotten a cold a couple days earlier, but was still her usual happy self. πŸ™‚ We did a little consignment shopping (yay for Once Upon a Child!) and had story and nap time on the patio.

Sunday afternoon, we hit up a downtown coffee shop to get some work done.

How has your week been?

Waiting in Line

This weekend was somewhat busy, tiring and wonderful. The highlights:

Saturday morning, we gathered all our important documents necessary for passport applications, then headed to the post office, hopeful that the submitting process wouldn’t take too long. But when we got to the post office, the passport line was pretty long. We decided to wait it out anyway. Two hours passed and we had barely moved and it was 10 minutes till closing time…I thought for sure we would be told they couldn’t process the rest of our applications and we would have to come back a different day (I’ve seen this happen before). But then one of the workers came out and told us to not let anyone else in line, and started taking passport pictures for those who needed it (we took ours on our own last week) and Β things started to pick up. 3 hours from getting in line, we finally left the post office after submitting the applications. We were so happy to get out of there! And for those of you wondering why we even need passports, we are planning a trip to Germany to visit my parents & some other countries this Christmas!

Saturday early evening, we headed downtown so Loren could take some headshots for me. Of course, he got some other great pictures as well. πŸ˜‰

Love him!!

And just to prove that Emberly wasn’t in her carseat ALL weekend, here she is on Sunday after church just relaxing. πŸ™‚

Sunday evening, I hosted a bachelorette party for Vashti (she’s getting married this weekend!!), and it was so much fun. I’m just a little mad at myself for not getting any pictures other than this one (thanks to Neah for this one), but the food was good and the games were funny and we all had a great time. Now, to get this girl married!!

Weekend at Home Sweet Home

This past weekend was the first one we were able to actually get some stuff done since baby was born. We’ve loved the past few weekends with family and friends, but sometimes you just need a quiet[er] Saturday.

Friday night we put Miss E to bed, then had a date night of dinner, a short card game and movie.

Saturday morning we slept in, then had a late brunch on the patio while Emberly napped. Later on, Loren gave Emberly her first bottle, which she took like a champ! Loren and I worked on random things that we had been putting off for the rest of day, including a run to Sam’s to get our passport pictures taken.

Shopping cart passport photo op.
Her old man hair cracks me every time.

Sunday we had a wonderful morning at church, then invited some new friends over for dinner, which was the perfect way to end the weekend.

Over the River

Our first roadtrip with baby is in the books! Even though the trip to Cincinnati is just under two hours, it still counts since it was an overnight trip. πŸ˜‰
We got to Loren’s parents Friday evening just in time for dinner and for Emberly to meet her great aunt, uncle and cousin.

Saturday morning, Emberly got in some snuggles with her grandma before we met up with Carrie (Loren’s sister) for a delicious breakfast at Half Day Cafe.

After breakfast we met back up with Loren’s parents and headed out to meet Emberly’s great grandmas. First up was Grandma Monnie, who loves newborns and was so delighted to meet Emberly.

Next, we stopped by to see Grandma Joan (she is 93!!), who was also very happy to meet Emberly.

Four generations!

All worn out from meeting the great grandmas.

Later on that evening after we all took naps, a couple other family members and close family friends came over for dinner and we had a lovely evening together.

Find the baby – taking a break from all the people!

Sunday we went to church with Loren’s parents, then headed back home after lunch.

Early morning snuggles with Grandpa before church

Happy to be back home

Even though we were pretty tired by the time we got home, we had a great weekend and were glad Emberly did so well and was able to meet so many special people.

Life Lately

I’ve been rather absent from the blog since baby’s arrival, but it’s time to pick things up again! Starting off my official return with a few recent life highlights:

Emberly had her first Dr. visit and wasn’t a huge fan of getting naked for that.

We broke out the stroller and had our first family walk, which also happened to be daddy’s first day back at work.

I took Emberly on her first Starbucks and Target run – teaching her the important things in life! πŸ˜‰ Also, why can’t all stores have grocery carts as smooth as Target!?

We had a Friday night family ice cream date and walk along the Canal.

Several family members and friends came to meet Emberly.

My cousin Dennae and her husband Daniel all the way from SC
Blake warmed up to the idea of holding a fresh baby. πŸ˜‰
Cincinnati cousins & aunt & uncle
Joanna & Jeffrey also came all the way from SC to meet E
And of course the grandparents

When Loren’s parents came for a visit this past weekend, they babysat Emberly for a couple hours and Loren and I snuck away for a baby-free coffee date.

This past weekend, I had the privilege of helping host a bridal shower for my friend Vashti. It was so much fun (and these are all the pictures I got)!

And one more baby picture because she’s just too cute.

That’s about it for now!
We’re are taking our first roadtrip (just to Cincinnati) with baby this weekend, so we’ll see how that goes!

Weekend with Sisters and Babies

We keep wondering if this is the last weekend before baby…maybe this one was it!

Friday afternoon, I got to have lunch with my sister and adorable new niece who were in town for a wedding. It was SO good to catch up and meet little Pepper!

Saturday, Loren and I actually attended the wedding Dawn and her family were here for and I snagged a picture because we forgot to on Friday (am I even a blogger!?). Look at those adorable squishy little baby cheeks!! Naturally, I didn’t get any pictures of my nephew who was the ringbearer, but he was adorable in his secret service get-up.

My favorite wedding date πŸ™‚

Later on Saturday evening, Loren got to experience a little bit of baby stuff shopping at Target. Don’t worry – I didn’t take too long and he got some new shirts (not from the baby section), so we can call it a win.

Sunday after church we had lunch with some friends, then worked on various things the rest of the afternoon. We did get out a little bit in the evening for a sunset walk.Β

Sometime I struggle for pictures. πŸ˜‰
Still struggling. Come on, baby!

Quality Over Quantity

Welcome to this past weekend’s short recap. We did several things, but only a few moments were photo-documented.

Thursday night, I met up with some girls from work for what I thought was going to be a regular girls’ night, but they had planned an adorable elephant-themed surprise baby shower for me! They were all so generous and baby girl was quite spoiled once again.

Friday night I had another girls’ night, this time with a few girls from church. We ate good food, chatted and had an all-around great time.

Saturday’s highlights included a late-morning graduation party and our annual Daku pancake and cartoon party. Sadly, not all of them could make it, but we still had a good time and ate way too many pancakes.

Sunday was pretty quiet after church, but we did get out to take our annual summer photobooth shots. I have no idea how these became a tradition, but we started them the summer we got married, and plan on taking them every year as long as we can. It’s fun to see how we change every year!
